Hospitalist Services

What is a Hospitalist?

A Hospitalist is a primary care physician who is the attending physician caring for patients while they are in the hospital. If a patient has a primary care physician, the Hospitalist will work closely with that physician who may decide to use the Hospitalist service. If a patient does not have a primary care or attending physician, the Hospitalist will care for the patient as their own and serve as the primary care physician during the patient’s stay with us. The Hospitalists at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital are board certified internal medicine and family medicine physicians from the Lassen Hospitalist Group, Inc., a sister company at Lassen Medical Clinic, Inc.

What are the advantages of being cared for by a Hospitalist?
  • Hospitalists work only in the hospital during a patient’s hospital stay and are available 24 hours a day.
  • Hospitalists are easily accessible in emergency health care situations and are available to address patient concerns and questions.
  • Hospitalists are extremely familiar with the hospital procedures which allow them to function efficiently when ordering tests, consulting other specialists and adjusting treatments.
  • Hospitalists stay in close contact with the patient’s established primary care physicians during their patient’s stay, allowing the primary care physician to spend more time on a continual basis with their office-based patients.
  • Hospitalists provide continuity of care to those patients who may not have a primary care physician.
What if I have a primary care physician? How will the Hospitalist work with my doctor?

During your stay, if your established primary care physician chooses to work with the available Hospitalist, your doctor will be informed of your condition and then transfer the management of your care to the Hospitalist. Depending on the length of your stay, you may see more than one Hospitalist. The Hospitalist and your established primary care physician will stay in contact regarding your care plan and progress and develop your discharge plans to ensure a smooth transition out of the hospital and your return to your primary care physician. If you do not have a primary care physician, the Hospitalist will assist your referral to a physician upon your return home.

How will I be billed for the Hospitalist services?

You will receive a separate bill from Lassen Hospitalist Group, Inc. for the services they provide during your stay. This will be separate from any hospital, laboratory or diagnostic service you receive during your stay. Upon receipt of your bill, please contact Lassen Medical Clinic, Inc., billing office with questions. 530.527.0414.
